What if you could have a lawn that required hardly any mowing, no pesticides or  irrigation, and actually fostered pollinators and other wildlife?  Tom Christopher will share his years of research and experience with creating and maintaining such alternative greensward and tell you how you can transform your own turf into a healthy and attractive asset to the local ecosystem.  Yes, the grass can be greener on your side of the fence.

1:30 PM - Drag Artist Story Time

Join Middletown Pride for an outdoor storytime at Middletown’s Second annual Earth Day Extravaganza! Our friends Frizzie, Rory and Hella will read books and share rhymes and songs for kids ages 4-8 and their families. We encourage attendees to bring a blanket to sit on since we will set up in the grass that day. While the activities we have planned are aimed at kids age 4-8 (Pre K – 3rd Grade), all ages are welcome!

Maya K. van Rossum is the Founder of Green Amendments For the Generations, a grassroots non-profit organization inspiring a nationwide movement to secure constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level. van Rossum is also the Delaware Riverkeeper, leading the watershed based advocacy organization, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, for over 30 years in its efforts to protect the health of the Delaware River and its tributaries. A skilled activist, attorney, strategist and community organizer, she was named in 2020 as a River Hero by River Network, in 2019 as one of Philadelphia Business Journal’s Power 100, and One Of The “10 Most Influential People of 2015” When It Comes to Energy Issues by SNL Energy. Her writing has been featured in such publications as Fortune Magazine, BloombergLaw, Law360, the Boston Globe, and TIME Magazine. She is author of, The Green Amendment: the People’s Fight for a Clean, Safe, and Healthy Environment. Since launching Green Amendments For The Generations, constitutional amendments have been proposed in 15 states, with New York formally passing a Green Amendment in 2021.

Audience will become participants in this improvisatory musical happening that will celebrate the beauty of sound as it resonates and reverberates through the tunnel. Gather at the tunnel opening on the Harbor Park side starting at 1:30, performance begins at 1:45

Repair Cafe with Mister Fix This! and Jon's Repairs

Repair Cafés are opportunities for the Sustainability-minded, Eco-conscious community to bring their presumed broken, non-functioning, small household items such as appliances, vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, lamps, toys, bicycles, furniture, etc. for diagnosis, disassembly, and possible repair.  Specialty tools and troubleshooting expertise are provided at the Café.  Just bring your stuff in need of fixin’!

Jon’s Repairs offers resources and expertise to community members who want to extend the wearable life of their clothes. What we wear on our backs, while keeping us warm and dry, often end up as a source of sentimentality and comfort within us. Jon aims to encourage this relationship by creating and sharing a base of repair knowledge within our communities so that we can opt out of wasteful habits built on replacement, keep our clothes from the landfill, and give them new life.

This is a program that the Middletown government is implementing with Eversource to help teach Middletown residents about all the ways they can make their home energy use more efficient. Residents can sign up for an energy audit and get recommendations for energy saving measures they can take and available rebates!

40 to 50 different kinds of Artisanal teas, a mixture of herbal/medicinal, caffeinated, and naturally caffeine free. Stove top simmers and natural car fresheners, as well as tea accessories.

Sugar Leaf

Hemp is eco-friendly and sustainable. It requires 50% more water to grow cotton compared to hemp.

We will be selling products made from locally sourced hemp including CBD tinctures, CBD pet treats, CBD topicals and body care products.

We also sell other sustainable products including bamboo soap dishes, hemp totes & apparel, etc.

We will also have information re local hemp farms in Connecticut that are available for folks to visit and learn more about sustainable hemp farming in the state.
